Even prior to 15% to 20% of the planet’s oil supply being trapped in the Persian Gulf, there was a strong indication OPEC was struggling to meet robust global demand. Much media attention had been focused at the time on the announced output increases OPEC made starting in the summer of 2024, with actual production to fulfill those commitments beginning in April of last year. Further plans to ramp-up output were disclosed throughout 2025.
