America’s Permian Basin is justifiably renowned for being the most prolific oil-producing formation in North America and, indeed, in the world. Less well known is its importance to U.S. natural gas production. Per the following graphic from the energy maestros, Leigh Goehring & Adam Rozencwajg (G&R), only the Permian has seen its gas output increase since 2023. (Shale formations have been almost entirely responsible for the USA shifting from the planet’s largest gas importer to its biggest exporter.)
